Pros
Almost everything. Pacing is great. Solid direction. Impressive acting. Relays the themes of the story in a way that is hard to imagine.
Cons
Not much. A few moments dip and become slow or rushed.
More impressive than the original, and that's saying something, because we liked the first one.
The Hunger Games was not only a surprise for us as critics, it was our very first show. We went into Catching Fire with higher expectations, after liking the first one, and we were still surprised.
Jennifer Lawrence is impressive again, and the story moves along so well that it is hard to find flaws with, especially if you’re looking at the thing for the action vehicle it is.
It’s going to be hard to keep this off the best of the year list, and that’s saying something, because I have a lot of films I want on that list.
At any rate, it turned into a fun show, even if this is a film that probably makes critique mostly an academic affair.
