From the director of the beautiful ‘Cinema Paradiso‘, Giuseppe Tornatore teams up with Geoffrey Rush (The Kings Speech, The Pirates of the Caribbean) and Donald Sutherland (A Time to Kill, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) to present psychological thriller ‘The Best Offer‘.
Auctioneer Virgil (Rush) lives and breaths art. As an expert, he hears of a house that possesses some of the finest art and artifacts in the area. However, the woman who lives there has not left the house in over 15 years, and nobody has ever seen her. She lurks behind the countless walls of art and becomes the eyes of portraits. Virgils love of art is combined with the desire for a woman, and the two strike up a weird yet eccentric relationship. As time goes on, Virgils love turns into obsession, and things turn a little darker for the two of them.
Tornatore’s new addition to his collection appears to be riddled with the themes of voyeurism, desire and obsession in many forms. Judging by the trailer, ‘The Best Offer’ is set to display incredible performances by the cast, and a stylistic, tasteful job by the crew; with this combined, ‘The Best Offer’ is sure to be a work of art.
‘The Best Offer’ is out in cinemas on the 1st January 2014.
