With franchises such as “The Hunger Games” skyrocketing to popularity, it is no surprise that Lionsgate, the film studio that brought the books to life, was approached with the idea of a theme park attraction. The books, while extremely popular, would only work as an added attraction to an existing theme park, similar to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.
“[We have been] approached in two territories about potential theme park opportunities,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer.
He gave no further details, but it was enough to spark rumors claiming that “The Hunger Games” franchise was to receive its own brand-new theme park.
What venues would be interested in adding such an attraction? Many have put their bets on Disneyland or Disneyworld. While the topic may be a bit violent for the usually clean-cut Mouse House, Disney does not usually pass up an opportunity to add to their constantly growing theme parks.
“We’re excited about these opportunities, and we’re pursuing them,” said Feltheimer.
Meanwhile, Disney is planning for a huge Marvel theme park attraction, based on the popular Iron Man character. Unfortunately for Americans, the superhero’s attraction will open in Hong Kong Disneyland in late 2016.
When announcing the ride, Disney described an adventure through the streets of Hong Kong. Guests will fly with Iron Man over the city in a ride that, not surprisingly, pits the superhero and the riders against villains. In addition, guests will be able to meet and take pictures with Iron Man.
“We are extremely confident in and committed to the continued growth and success of Hong Kong Disneyland. I’m excited to see Iron Man become a part of that success when we welcome guests to the attraction in late 2016,” said Disney on the Disney Parks blog.
If these theme park ideas take off, we’re likely to see crowds of eager fans lining up for the first glance.
