Welcome to 2014 all my friends! I hope you are enjoying these first days and thinking about what new habits, or “resolutions” you might make and KEEP this year. Maybe it’s something like, “I’m going to try to eat healthier snacks,” or “I’m going to play out in the snow and get some exercise.” Maybe, if you’re not the snow bunny type, you may take up a new hobby, like building models, puzzles, you know, things that will keep your brains SHARP!
So, of course one SUPER EASY resolution that you could EASILY keep all year long is reading. Yes, READING will not only stimulate your brain, but your imagination as well. I LOVE to read, but of course I’m sure you knew that. So, to help you keep this resolution, here are my favorite January picks for every age:
1. Preschool—Lucy Cousins is one of my favorite authors for this age. Her stories, such as the Maisy Book Series, Yummy: Eight Favorite Fairy Tales, and Hooray for Fish! Are extremely colorful, words are simple, and will give your child the perfect start to a lifetime of reading—on your lap.
2. Beginning Readers—The Boxcar Children Mysteries by Gertrude Chandler Warner are easy to read chapter books that your children will love! Suspense and family that will keep their imagination chugging.
3. Youth Readers—I’m sure you saw the movie this holiday, so why not read all three books? The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins I just finished reading myself, and I couldn’t put them down! So check them out—they are SO MUCH BETTER than the movies!
Have fun with your resolutions friends, and I’ll see you next week with some ideas for fun in the snow! Miss Lisa
