Is it wrong to assume that almost everyone had to read The Outsiders at some point during their middle school or high school career? I read it in 7th grade and I loved it. We got to watch the movie then, too, but I think I liked the book better.
I realize that I never really talk about books here. I used to read a lot more before college and during the beginning of college. There was one summer where I read about 40 books! I don't read as much now, but that doesn't mean I don't still love it. There's nothing like an incredible book and that feeling of connection and meaning behind the words that someone else so thoughtfully and meticulously wrote. I find authors like Tolkien and J.K. Rowling especially fascinating. It takes a lot of imagination and thought to create such perfect and elaborate worlds! It really is extraordinary, and they are geniuses in my eyes. Though I have to admit...even though Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie, the books are very hard to get through.
I'm not sure if I ever mentioned it here, but my favorite book is The Time Traveler's Wife. It's the perfect combination of wit/humor, romance, sci-fi, and genuineness. The characters are so realistic and relatable. The point of view switches between the main female character and the main male character, which I love. I love hearing the story from two different points of view, especially two different genders. They made a movie starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in 2009. The book is definitely better. Both of them make me cry, though! It's not all that hard to make me cry at something...lol. Don't even get me started on The Notebook...
Speaking of books turned into movies...another one of my favorite books (as well as movies) is Jurassic Park. The book is a lot different than the movie, but it is so good. I highly recommend that you read it if you love the movie and dinosaurs in general. I like the way Crichton wrote. I can't even describe his style, but it's very unique. The Lost World was really good too!
Some of my other favorites are 1984, The Giver, The Lovely Bones, the Hunger Games series, and The Picture of Dorian Gray. I also loved the book Room by Emma Donoghue. It's a newish one (it came out in 2010), and it's told from the viewpoint of a little boy who lives with his mother who is kept locked in a room by an abductor. It's really intriguing and I love the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the little boy. There are still so many more books that I want to read. I have a bunch that I've bought and still haven't read. There are many books that I'd like to re-read as well. I'm hoping to start to get back into it more this year.
Speaking of the new year, this is what I wore for New Year's Eve and these last few pictures are of the last sunset of 2013. I had this outfit planned ever since I got this sequined jacket a couple of months ago. I don't wear sequins very often, so I like to break them out for the holidays. I'm always game for some festive clothing! :)
