Congratulations to Aubrey Cannon, our latest Weekly “Three Sentence Essay” Scholarship winner!
Elementary school and middle school are during what’s known as our “formative years”. As a result, certain moments can stand out during our youth. That’s why we wanted to know about moments in our students’ lives that stood out in their minds. Aubrey’s answer is touching and encouraging.
Here’s her winning essay:
I witnessed an older man with autism be bullied by a group of eighth graders when I was in sixth grade. I was absolutely outraged, but before I worked up the courage to confront them, one of them told the others to leave the man alone. They all did so, and that gave me hope.
Here’s a bit more about our winner from her own mouth:
Everything I do, I do with hopes of making someone’s life better (or at least their day). Even when the entire world was against me, I knew that getting a higher education would not only benefit me, but benefit others.
Here are a few of our favorite runners up:
In elementry school, I was a C student. Then a teacher challenged me to my fullest ability. If not for him, I would not have the commitment to academics that I have now, and probably would have dropped out of high school now. -John R.
In elementary school I had dawn a picture of my teacher , that was about 300 pounds, with a sleeker leaner shape. My picture inspired her and gave her the drive she needed to help her lose her excess weight. I helped my teacher lose over 200 pounds. -Greg E.
That moment when playing kickball at recess and you “roof” the ball. It’s the greatest accomplishment in any elementary student’s recess career. Of course, the only bad thing about the situation is that you can’t play anymore until the janitor fetches the ball from the roof. -Aarus W.
We’re always trying to make a lasting impression on our students. Sign up for our Weekly “Three Sentence Essay” Scholarship to score a thousand bucks towards your college tuition costs.
