2013: A Year in Books | Radical Ramblings

December 30, 2013 · 5:04 pm

I smashed my target! Last year I vowed to read at least one book per month, but I managed to read double that! WOOHOO! 25 books! That’s better than last year’s paltry effort. I’ve loved getting into my reading vibe again and have devoured some wonderful stories. Here’s what 2013 saw me reading…

1. A Meeting at Corvallis by S.M. Stirling

2. Sandra Dodd’s Big Book of Unschooling by Sandra Dodd

3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

4. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

5. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

6. Teach Your Own: The John Holt Book of Homeschooling by John Holt

7. It by Stephen King

8. How To Teach Quantum Physics To Your Dog by Chad Orzel

9. The Sunrise Lands by S.M. Stirling

10. The Scourge of God by S.M. Stirling

11. The Sword of the Lady by S.M. Stirling

12. The Gremlins by Roald Dahl

13. The High King of Montival by S.M. Stirling

14. Someone Like You by Roald Dahl

15. The Tears of the Sun by S.M. Stirling

16. James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

17. The Shining by Stephen King

18. Confessions of a Conjuror by Derren Brown

19. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

20. Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card

21. Cujo by Stephen King

22. Xenocide by Orson Scott Card

23. The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris

24. Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card

25. Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling by John Taylor Gatto

My favourites have to be The Hunger Games books. I LOVED them! I read the whole set in a week. I also totally loved Ender’s Game, which surprised me as science fiction isn’t usually my bag.

A huge surprise was Someone Like You by Roald Dahl. I didn’t even realise he wrote adult stories, and this collection of short stories was quite disturbing and wonderful. Thanks Nicolette for introducing me to something different!

So I guess my next target is to double this year’s number. Let’s see if I can read 50 books in 2014. There are so many books I’m dying to read, I can’t wait!
